Celebrating our Caribbean & American Leaders Awards Reception

The Caribbean Chamber of Commerce held its Awards Reception in Baltimore, Maryland in recognition of young students and a few notable mature achievers in the Caribbean community.  I had the pleasure to assist with and make some of the presentations through making introductions and biographies of the awardees.  There were three mature achievers, from Greneda, Mrs. Lisda Sawney, awarded for her Excellence in Community Service and Health Initiatives; from Jamaica, Mrs. Marguerite Dennis, awarded for her Excellence in Community Service; and also from Jamaica, Mrs. Margaret Bernal, wife of former Jamaican Ambassador to the US, Dr. Richard Bernal, poet, author and arts advocate.  Mrs. Bernal read poetry from her latest book, "Islance Reliquaries: Voices from a Jamaican Past". Lisda Sawney displayed all of the incredible awards she received over the years from the Embassy of Grenada, as well as her truly impressive and most recent awards from the Grenadian government.

Nine student awardees in Middle-school and High School displayed their certificates, artwork and recognition for achievements in academics community service and excellence in the arts and humanities.  The Chamber recognized all of their accomplishments with certificates from the Chamber and photo op moment with their families.   Another highlight of the evening was one of the youngest awardees, Master Ronald Williams' piano recital video and his live performance at the Center on violin.  I truly had a tremendous night and to see all of the young people so well-groomed and highly motivated, was inspiration enough!
